Public Guided Tours

Public guided tours are held daily in Riihisaari during the summer season. These tours are intended for individual visitors, and are included in the museum admission fee.

Guided Tours for Groups

Private guided tours for groups are organized in Riihisaari throughout the year. The guided group tour covers the history of the Saimaa, Finland’s largest lake, and its residents, such as the endangered Saimaa ringed seal. In the summer, the guided group tours can also visit our museum steamships.

Summer 2026

Welcome to the public guided tours at Riihisaari! During the summer season, daily tours introduce visitors to the exhibitions inside the museum building and to the museum steamships docked outside at the pier. This summer, the English-language tours will begin on Monday 15 June 2026. Tours will take place according to the schedule whenever there is at least one participant.

Guided Museum Ship Tour

Welcome to discover the unique museum ships at Riihisaari on a guided tour! During the tour, we will visit the historic steamships docked at the pier.

The tour includes the 152-year-old steam schooner Salama. The magnificent Salama sank and spent more than 70 years at the bottom of the lake. We will also step aboard the 112-year-old s/s Mikko, the world’s last authentic tar steamer. In addition, you will hear about the 133-year-old pilot ship Saimaa and the 156-year-old steam tug Ahkera, both spending the summer at Riihisaari.

The tour takes place outdoors on the pier, on the decks, and inside the ships. The ships are not wheelchair accessible. The tour is held in all weather conditions.

The museum ship tour is for individual visitors.

Tickets: Adults 11 €. Free admission for children and young people under 18. Pensioners and students 6 €. Combined ticket with Olavinlinna Castle 19 €. We accept the Finnish Museum Card.

With the same ticket, you can also explore the exhibitions inside the museum and visit the museum shop.

Open daily 10 am–5 pm in May–August, and Tue–Sun 10 am–5 pm during the rest of the year. Closed on 19–20 June for Midsummer.

Guided Museum Exhibition Tour

Welcome to discover the Riihisaari museum on a guided tour! During the tour, we will visit the main exhibition, which presents life on Lake Saimaa throughout the ages. You will also hear about the endangered Saimaa ringed seal.

The exhibition tour takes place inside the museum building. The tour is wheelchair accessible.

The exhibition tour is for individual visitors.
